July
14, 2009 part III ...Anthony Randolph is going to be a superstar NBA
player. If Don Nelson doesn’t
ruin him by not playing him, the Warriors will make the biggest jump in the
standings in 2009-10. Also - if I am in charge of the Warriors I would be
molding my entire team around Randolph. They absolutely should start on that
right now. Anthony Randolph is THAT good. I would keep Andris Biedrins at all costs. Ditto Steph Curry, and Anthony Morrow.
If Stephen Jackson comes
trying to get teammates involved like he did for a stretch of 2008-09—you
keep him too. I have always liked the versatility and toughness of Kelenna Azubuike, and I feel that Brandan Wright still has a chance to be a player
too. Ronny Turiaf is a
great backup for Biedrins. The ones that may not fit or compliment Randolph
in my opinion are Monta Ellis, and Corey Maggette. Randolph is already better than
both of those guys who will really just be taking away possessions from
Randolph. July
14, 2009 part II ...Mike D’Antoni - just said of Danilo Gallanari on NBA Broadband - “he might be the
best shooter I’ve ever seen”. The Knicks coach was sitting in with Joel Meyers as the Summer Knicks were taking on
the Summer Grizzlies. ...Gavin Maloof yesterday
told Rick Kamla that Tyreke Evans is the starting Point Guard for the
Kings this year. ...David Stern was on
with Kamla and David Aldridge yesterday
and he did not mince words about the Orlando Magic matching the Dallas offer
sheet for Marcin Gortat. He
said the Magic were “slitting their financial wrists”. ...Good move by the Chicago Bulls to buy
out Tim Thomas. July

Portland .709 ...Monday was a big day in the Summer league with six games
rather than the four that had taken place each day prior. ...Just as we track
the efficiency stars—we also call out the select few who play “below zero”.
An efficiency rating of less than zero suggests you may have been better off
not playing at all on that day. As normal - we only look at those that played
at least 15 minutes and 30 seconds minimum. Four players posted below zero
efficiency on Monday: Goran Dragic, Thomas Gardner, DaJuan Summers, and Jason Thompson. July

am excited to be a Kings fan when I see the potential of young talent. If you
are going to lose - go ahead and lose with guys that are presumably going to
be getting better. Tyreke Evans is
going to make life nice again at ARCO. He can get to the hoop at will. What a
great dimension to add to a team!

Rockets .500. ...Three players that played 16 minutes or more managed to
“play below zero” - which means they had a game efficiency rating lower than
.000. In other words—these players hurt their teams with bad, bad games. The three on opening day were: DeRon Washington, Mustafa Shakur, and Aaron Miles. July
7, 2009 ...Orlando Summer League Day Two: Ryan Anderson went
nutso for the Magic as they beat Boston 85-82. Anderson pumped in 33 points
and grabbed 14 rebounds while being a perfect 9-9 from the line. Maurice Ager also played well off the Magic bench.
Ager scored ten points with four assists in 17 minutes. Boston did not play Bill Walker or Mike Sweetney. ...Game Two of day two saw Utah
handle the split-squad from New Jersey-Philadelphia. Kevin Lyde and Eric Maynor were solid as starters while Josh Duncan, Kevin Kruger, and Jimmy Baron all contributed off the bench. James Augustine could not have played much better in
his limited run for the Jazz. Chris
Douglas-Roberts was the only sign of life for
NJ-Phila. “CDR” aka “Buckets” busted 27 points in 26 minutes. The final game of the day featured two
winners from yesterday going heads up. The Indiana Pacers narrowly defeated
Oklahoma City to become the only 2-0 team. Once again it was the big-man duo
of Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough that owned the game. Hibbert scored
24 points while Hansbrough scored 23. OKC received a great ten minutes from Kyle Hines who scored four points, grabbed five
boards, blocked a shot and had a steal. Other OKC bench performers that
looked good were B.J. Mullens, and Robert Vaden. Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka were the best Thunder starters. |
