August 30, 2005 ...I’m saying the New Orleans Hornets will have to relocate. ...No expert on it but I can’t imagine that city recovering enough in two months to host world class basketball. …Roughly five weeks until training camps open. But who is counting? ...Toronto Raptors. Today I play like I am in charge of this discombobulated team. Okay—I start by naming the quality pieces. I like Matt Bonner, Chris Bosh, and rookies Charlie Villanueva, and Joey Graham. That didn’t take long. Rafer Alston can ball too, and maybe he wouldn’t bitch so much if the front office had his back a little better.  Jalen Rose has a huge contract and is difficult to trade—but if I could I would trade him for a future pick or two. Lamond Murray can still score and he is a nice backup at this stage of his career.  I respect Morris Petersen’s work ethic—but I don’t view him as a starter in the NBA.  I would trade him too. I would entertain any offer for Rafael Araujo—although I would be just as content to D-League him this year. At the point I would go with Alston and try to sign Blake Stepp. I would seek Eddie House as help at the TWO to compliment the signing of Jose Calderon. Darius Songaila would be a target for front line help. For giggles, maybe see if the Bulls are serious about matching any offer for Tyson Chandler. Left in the NBA dust pile after my cleanup in Toronto? Aaron Williams, Eric Williams, Pape Sow, Alvin Williams, Loren Woods and Omar Cook.

August 24, 2005 The rant against Kevin McHale, it turns out, was unnecessary. The Sonics matched Minnesota’s offer for Damien Wilkins. So now—I say to Seattle. Why? ...In the 916 the issue de jour is whether or not the Kings should match the Pistons offer-sheet for Maurice Evans. My thoughts? Bonzi Wells is better than Evans, and so is rookie Francisco Garcia. So - Evans, as a shooting guard on the Kings roster, is third team. As a small forward—he has more value. He would be Peja’s back-up. Mo Evans can shoot the three-ball now. We heard it suggested that Corliss Williamson would backup Peja. I guess Corliss can defend threes but I am not a fan of Corliss on the wing in an offense. I am not at all sold on Kevin Martin. So keeping Evans to back-up Peja makes sense to me unless you can get someone as efficient and as young for a lower price. Can you? Knuckle-head Rodney White fits the bill. So do Josh Davis, and Dermarr Johnson. Spencer Nelson anyone?
