NBA Draft 2006By Bobby Gerould – Rocklin, CA. June 5, 2006 …Here is our latest draft list leading up to the pre-draft camp. This list is rooted in the science of the Efficiency Rating of the player relative to his future pro position. The rankings from 1-101 consider the landscape presently in the NBA. The list also includes a dose of common-sense and my own feel for players I like. …Check it out.

 

  1. Tyrus Thomas – LSU – 6’9” 215 PF – Freshman. …Thomas is the most efficient young prospect in college basketball in 2006. He is long, and quick. An athletic freak. ...Right handed. He blocks shots at a high rate. Not a great perimeter shooter. He scores on offensive rebounds and by running the floor. ...Has shown the ability to make a nice high-low pass. He had 17 points, nine rebounds, and nine blocked shots in a win over Tennessee on Jan. 14, 2006. For his freshman season at LSU - he shot 61% FG, and 67% FT.
  2. Patrick O’Bryant – Bradley – 7’0” 260 C – Sophomore. …Jim Les coached one of the best prospects in America in O'Bryant. 2005-06 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. ...Good hands. Right handed. ...Great size and length. …Raw defensively. ...I want to see more aggression from him. …Catches and turns to finish well. …In a win over Tennessee Tech (02/18/06) he scored 19 points, grabbed 16 boards, and blocked nine shots. ...He shot 55% FG, and 69% FT in his two seasons in Peoria, IL. (Bradley).
  3. LeMarcus AldridgeTexas – 6’10” 230 PF – Sophomore. …Can rebound in traffic. He runs, catches, and finishes plays at NBA speed. Plays well above the rim. He does not yet have a smooth and consistent outside shot, and he needs to add strength. I think most folks have him overrated at present. ...Right hander played for the Global Games Select team.  He was a McDonalds All-American high school player.  For his two seasons at Texas - he shot 59% FG, and 65% FT.
  4. Brandon Roy Washington. 6’6” 200 – SG/PG – Senior. … Smooth guard has a nice all around game. 2005-06 PAC-10 Player of the Year. ...Ala Mitch Richmond, he can raise up to hit a jump shot from deep without a dribble. …Takes charges. …Makes good passes. Can handle the ball as well. Poised. ...He rebounds and immediately looks up the floor. ...A big shot taker and maker. ...Honorable Mention All Pac-10 as a junior. …Posted career high 35 points vs. Arizona State on 12/29/05.
  5. Shelden Williams – Duke – 6’9” 245 PF/C – Senior. …Shot blocking big man is also solid around the hoop offensively. Right handed but uses his left well. He is a man. Sometimes he just wrestles the ball away the way Ben Wallace would. He is bigger, and he wants it more. ...A double-double waiting to happen. …From Forest Park, OK. …Right handed hook near the basket is nice. Leading shot blocker in the ACC. He blocked 422 shots in four seasons at Duke.  ...Not much of a face up game. He shoots 69% from the line. Scrapped for 26 points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocked shots in a win at Maryland 02/11/06.  Always gives an honest effort. ...He has the ability, and strength to succeed in the NBA. His defense and rebounding will always be there and any offense should be a bonus. ...Some look at Williams as a plodder - but he recovers too quickly to be labeled as such. He could use more creativity in the post. ...Great power.
  6. Adam Morrison – Gonzaga – 6’8” 204 SF – Junior. …Morrison is a scorer that understands the game. He has incredible desire. He shoots the three-ball well, and hits all kinds of shots around the hoop. Amazing confidence. Scorer. Advanced mid range game. Hit game winner on February 19, 2005. …Plays hard. Competes. He scored 43 points at Michigan State in a Gonzaga win (11/22/05). ...Shot 50% FG for his three-year career at Gonzaga. 76% FT shooting suggests that he is not as good a shooter as his legend says he is. ...He could also be a better rebounder.
  7. Andrea Bargnani – Benetton Treviso. 7’0” 240 SF/PF …20 years old. He can stroke the three. Good speed for a man his size. Played 2003-03 season for Stella Azzurra (Rome), in the Italian minors…Signed for the 2003-04 season by Benetton Basket Treviso where he still plays.
  8. Saer Sene Senegal. 7’0” 235. C. – Born 1986. …He recently turned 20 years old. …Has a wing span of 7'8". He dominated defensively at the Nike Hoop Summit 2006 - blocking nine shots from an assembled USA Basketball squad of stars. From what I can dig up - he shoots 72 % FG!!!! …He is not a good free throw shooter at 41% for what I can find.
  9. Rudy Gay Connecticut – 6’9” 220 SF/SG – Sophomore. …Gay makes shots that NBA players make. Right handed. He has the length to disrupt his opponent, and the skill to score in a variety of ways on offense. He can score driving to the hoop with either hand. Great body control allows him to finish plays at NBA speed. ...Played for the 2004 USA Basketball Junior National Select team. …Slender. Great length. …Was 2004-05 Big East Freshman of the Year. ...46% FG shooter in two seasons at Connecticut. 72% FT shooter. ...A great prospect that still has room to grow in his game.
  10. Ronnie Brewer Arkansas. 6’7” 190 PG/SG/SF Junior. …Tall guard can play the point. …A thief. Right hander. …Good athlete. …Said to be a 'good kid'. …Willing to sacrifice his body. …Has ability to make special plays in the open-court. …46% FG shooter over three seasons at Arkansas. 67% from the FT line tells you about his inconsistent outside shooting. ...I like his length and competitiveness.
  11. Nick FazekasNevada – 6’11” 235. Junior. … 2004-05 WAC Player of the Year. Fazekas could finish in traffic in the NCAA. He gets up on his toes, and combined with his long arms, he keeps balls alive. His hands are way quicker than his feet. String bean skinny, and a bit awkward, Fazekas is nevertheless effective. ...He shoots too many threes. ...WAC Player of the Week 02/16/04. As a freshman posted 32 points and 15 rebounds, both career highs in a rout of UTEP on Valentine's Day 2004. ...Denver Post Player of the Year as a high school Senior. Led his team to Colorado state championship. ...On his three point proficiency at 6'11", "I've got the green light to take it. I don't take it unless I'm really in rhythm. Basically, if I'm open, I'll shoot it. I'm not going to try to create it or anything." (USA Today)
  12. Paul Millsap Louisiana Tech. 6’8” 245 PF/SF – Junior. …This cat is a GREAT rebounder. ...His shot is inconsistent.  62% Free Throw shooter. 56% FG for his three year career at LA. Tech. ...Millsap averaged 15.6 points and a nation-best 12.5 rebounds per game to earn WAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2003-04. Named to 2004-05 pre-season all WAC team. …Posted 29 points and 18 rebounds in a win at Fresno St. January 28, 2006.
  13. P.J. TuckerTexas – 6’5” 220 SG – Junior. …Tucker is a baller. He competes, and succeeds. ...Associated Press Big 12 Player of the Year in 2005-06. …He is a 6'5" player that rebounds like a power forward. Bonzi Wells? Great freshman season but ruled academically ineligible after start of sophomore season. …A typical game for Tucker; 19 points 9 rebounds and 4 assists which he had in a win over West Virginia November 21, 2005. For his three seasons at Texas - Tucker shot 53% FG, and 71% FT. ...He does not look for the three point shot - but did hit 2-3 attempts this past season.
  14. Rajon Rondo Kentucky. 6’1” 171 PG. Sophomore. …A point guard with long arms and big hands. Crafty around the hoop. He has a skill level that allows him to execute a one-handed backdoor bounce pass on the money. ...Can hit the floater. ...Rondo set a Kentucky record for most steals in a season as a Freshman. ...Shot 49% FG, and 58 % FT in two years at Kentucky. ...McDonald's High School All American.
  15. Hassan Adams Arizona. 6’4” 220. SG – Senior. …Adams is a strong guard with great speed, and good power in his game. He is a scorer that thrives on competition. He can finish amidst the tall timber in part because he has a 6'10" wingspan. …He is becoming a better outside shooter. Shot 50% FG, and 70 % FT for his career at Arizona. ...Midrange game is very nice. He has the quickness to get inside a good defense. …Off the charts athleticism allows him to hit the offensive glass. ...Great quickness allows him to get many steals. ...Honorable Mention All Pac-10 in 2004-05. ...The first guard to earn California's Mr. Basketball title since New Orleans Hornets guard Baron Davis did so in 1997.
  16. Paul Davis Michigan State. 6’11” 255. PF/C – Senior. …Big man is skilled. It is hard to find big guys with touch on their shot and Davis has that. 76% free throw shooter for his college career. 54% FG over same time frame. ...Hits the offensive glass hard. Needs to work on his off (left) hand. ...Was named to the 2003 Global Games All-Tournament Team. What he does not do is protect the basket very well. He is a non-shot blocker - and for that reason I believe his future is at Power Forward not Center.
  17. Sergio RodriguezSpain. 6’3” 180. PG. Born 1986. 68% FT for what I can dig up.
  18. Rudy Fernandez Spain. 6’6” 172 SG/PG – Born 1985. …Fernandez is a perpetual motion athlete. The 2006 Euro Cup MVP moves well all the time; with or without the ball. ...He is 21 years old and he plays major minutes for the Spanish National Team. …Mature guard. He takes care of the ball - and he is a step ahead of others. He gets steals at a high rate. …He is a great free throw shooter (86% for all attempts we can find). ...Fernandez has a contract with his club until 2008 and any club wanting to take him on would have to meet a buy-out clause of 1.6 million euros. He made headlines in 2003-04 when he was named MVP of the Copa del Rey. He made Spain's Olympic team. ...Needs to add strength to compete in the NBA.
  19. Shawne Williams Memphis – 6’9” 230. SF/SG/PF – Freshman. …Talented kid. He has special athletic gifts. ...His first name is pronounced as Shawn. …He shoots 78% from the line. Scored 26 points with seven rebounds in a win over UCLA on November 23, 2005.  ...19 years old with a 37" vertical. Played very poorly in the Roundball classic high school all-star game which may have prevented him from being drafted out of high school. He is all over the floor. ...31% from three point range as a freshman. He likes the three-ball - maybe too much. He shot only 42% FG in his first year at Memphis.
  20. Cedric Simmons N.C. State – 6’9” 233 PF/C – Sophomore. …Lanky yet powerful. A shot blocker that scores on put backs. He shot 57% FG, and 65 % FT for his brief two-year stint at NC State. His two best games this season both came in losses. He had 13 points, 13 boards, and 8 blocked shots in a loss to Iowa. ...In an L to Duke - Simmons went off for 28 points, 9 rebounds, and seven blocks. ...Simmons played in the Roundball Classic in 2004 on the East squad.
  21. J.J. Redick – Duke. 6’4” 195. SG – Senior. …Redick is a scorer. Widely considered the best shooter in college basketball. ...Not just a stationary shooter. Right handed. Scored 40 points in 34 minutes on 13 FG attempts in a January 28th 2006 game. He moves well without the ball, using screens effectively. He competes. He has good coordination. Uses the ball fake extremely well. I still have questions about how his game will translate to the NBA. I think he will be good but maybe not great. First Team AP All-American 2005. He made 61 straight free throws during his junior year. ...McDonald's All-American MVP as a high school senior.  Won the McDonald's 3-point competition.
  22. Oleksiy Pecherov Ukraine. Paris Racing (France) 6’10” 232. PF/SF – Born 1985. …MVP of the 2005 Global Games competition in Dallas where in nine games he averaged 26 points on 61% FG shooting. Now 21 years old. ...He also grabbed 14 boards per contest - and made 8 of 14 threes vs. the best youth ballers in the world. …In all the stats I can dig up for him he shoots 55% from the field, and 78% from the line.
  23. Thabo Sefolosha Switzerland. 6’6” 185. SG – Born 1984. …Sefolosha is a rebounding Two Guard that struggles with his perimeter game. He is a good and willing defender. …Guard skills are his ball handling, and defense.
  24. Leon Powe Cal – 6’8” 245. PF – Sophomore. …Leon Powe (PO) averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds last season at Cal. He established a Pac-10 Tournament record with 20 rebounds in a win over USAC 03/09/06. ...Former Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. ...Muscular power player that scores in the post and rebounds well. …Needs to improve his ball handling, left hand, and passing. …Sat out 2004-05 with surgically repaired left knee. Played in SF summer league in 2005.
  25. Marcus Williams Connecticut – 6’3” 205 PG – Junior. …A true point guard with an assist to turnover ratio over 2:1 ...From Los Angeles, CA. Posted a triple double of 18 points, 13 assists, and ten rebounds in a win over Notre Dame 02/21/06. …He shot only 40% FG for his three seasons at U-Conn. 79% FT shooting is a better indication of his good touch on his shot. ...I believe he is presently overrated but he could be a factor in the NBA when he matures and has better shot selection.
  26. Mike Gansey West Virginia – 6’4” 205 SG/PG - Gansey is a tough, alert, guard that competes! ...Hits the glass as a guard. 51% FG shooter for his size is impressive! 72 % FT shooter for his career as a Mountaineer. …So far his assist-to-turnover ratio is 1.7 to 1. He shoots the three with accuracy. …Gansey was 2000-01 Ohio Division II Player of the Year. I like Mike Gansey.
  27. Randy Foye – Villanova – 6’4” 205 SG – Senior. …Foye is a scorer with a solid body and base. A player you can trust to give an honest effort. "A fireplug with a head" says Jay Bilas. 78% FT shooter. He can create his own space. Fabulous one-on-one player. He hits difficult runners. ...Good but not great speed. ...He doesn't get to the line as much as I'd like him too. ...Foye is good at doing what shooting guards do; shoot.
  28. Rodney Carney Memphis – 6’7” 205. SG – Senior. …Athletic two guard with crazy leaping ability. 2005-06 Conference USA Player of the Year. ...A real high-riser. ...Because Carney can block shots he is very interesting. He struggles at the free throw line. Inconsistent outside shooter. 41 % FG, 72% FT for his four-year Memphis career. He struggles feeding the post. Skinny but strong. He hits the mid range shot and can to anywhere he wants on the court. ...High School: Indianapolis Star's Player of the Year.  Indiana state champ in the high jump.  Sixth at the state championship in the 400 meters with a time of 49.28, and was the sectional and regional champion in both the high jump and 400 meters.
  29. Kyle Lowry – Villanova. 6’1” 175. PG. Sophomore. …Lowry can change a game with his speed and competitive drive. ...He explodes through any openings. Low center of gravity. …Shot 45 % FG and 74 % FT in his two seasons at Villanova. ...He is from Philadelphia.
  30. Lior Eliyahu Israel – 6’9” 225. PF. – Born 1985. … Thin 20 year-old is good when confident. Athletic with long arms. Right handed. …This kid is efficient. 55% FG shooter for all the shots I can find for him. 68% FT. He rebounds well, and has more assists than turnovers. …Not yet a good enough three-point shooter.
  31. Taj Gray Oklahoma. 6’9” 235. PF – Senior. …Taj Gray has unbelievable quickness for a man 6'9".  He is a step ahead of everyone. He finishes as well as anyone I've seen. 56% FG shooter in two years at Oklahoma. 68% FT for his career. ...Makes great catches that others would not make. ...Gray was named first-team NJCAA All-American as a sophomore, finishing runner-up in the NJCAA Player of the Year balloting.  Named Kansas high school player of the year as a senior when he helped Wichita East win a state title.
  32. Vladimir Veremeenko Belarus. 6’11” 235. PF/SF Born 1984. … Shooter with size. …He runs the floor well and has a feel for the game. …Named Belarus Player of the Year four years in a row.
  33. Hilton Armstrong Jr. – Connecticut. 6’11” 235. C. Senior. …Shot blocker supreme came alive as a Senior. His plays with poise, and selflessness. He makes a good hi-lo pass. …Poor free throw shooter (60%) for his career. …Had ten points and nine blocks in a win over Louisville on March 4, 2006. …He does not handle the ball well - with more than two turnovers for every assist. ...Shot 56% FG for his career at U-Conn.
  34. Marcus Vinicius Sao Carlos, Brazil. 6’9” 235 SF – Born 1984. …Perimeter player with nice size. He can also handle the ball and has been playing Point Guard on his Brazilian team.
  35. Eric Hicks Cincinnati. 6’6” 240 SG/SF/PF …Powerful and explosive. Hicks is looking to dunk anything in-close. …Had a triple-double January 7, 2006 at Marquette with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and ten blocks. The question is - can he adapt to being a shooting guard or perimeter guy in the NBA? 51% FG shooter but only 58% FT during his Bearcats career.
  36. Justin Williams Wyoming. 6’10” 225. C. Senior. …Shot blocking big man is from Chicago. …He had 13 points, 20 rebounds, and nine blocks in a win over Charlotte on 11/15/05.
  37. Richard Roby Colorado. 6’6” 190. SG. Sophomore. …Busted 29 as a freshman at Texas Tech. Right handed. …Very good in transition game. He can shoot the deep shot or blow by you with his quickness. He has NBA athleticism. …Shoots a high arching shot. Great body control. 43% FG shooter. 73 % FT shooter.
  38. James White Cincinnati – 6’7” 210. SF, SG. Senior. … White is a high-riser. Explosive, fast, quick. Great finisher. He can take anyone off the dribble. Maryland high school Player of the Year as a junior. McDonald's All-American.  …Horrible shot selection.
  39. Maurice Ager Michigan State. 6’5” 195 SG – Senior. …Ager improved every year in college. He runs the floor and finishes. Good ball handler. Athletic and tough as you expect a Michigan St. player to be. …Made himself a better shooter as a Junior, knocking down 80% from the line, and 40% from beyond the arc. Explosive guard can get his own shot. If he were a big bigger and could guard small forwards in the NBA - he would be a better prospect. ...Great explosiveness. Shot 44% FG for his four-year Spartan career. 78% FT Shooter.
  40. Jordan Farmar – UCLA – 6’2” 170. PG – Sophomore. …MVP of the 2005 Global Games competition in Dallas where in nine games he averaged 26 points on 61 % FG shooting. Now 21 years old. ...He also grabbed 14 boards per contest - and made 8 of 14 threes vs. the best youth ballers in the world. …In all the stats I can dig up for him he shoots 55% from the field, and 78% from the line.
  41. Guillermo Diaz Miami. 6’2” 192 – Senior …Diaz can get to the hoop. Right handed. He explodes to the basket, and then uses the basket to shield himself. ...Capable of hitting circus shots. Super athletic. Good three point shooter. 74% FT shooter. 45% FG for his Miami career.  …He must improve his shot selection, and turn the ball over less.
  42. Yemi Nicholson Denver – 6’10” 250. PF/C – Senior. … Nicholson is a huge man with good instincts, and great timing. ...Sun Belt Player of the Year. Posted impressive 27 points and 18 rebounds at Kansas State. …22 and 13 at Wyoming.  …A musician that started playing ball late in his career. He rebounds well, and blocks shots at a high rate. ...Needs to improve on setting screens. ...He gets his points on put backs and by beating slower bigs to the basket with his quickness.
  43. Kevin Pittsnogle West Virginia – 6’11” 240 PF/C/SF - Can knock down the three consistently as a 6'11" power forward. …Best at shooting off the catch. …Not as good if he has to pump fake or work for a shot. …He doesn't rebound well. …He rarely gets to the line. …Not much of a shot blocker. What he does very well is drag the opposing Center out to the perimeter. ...Shot 46% FG, and 81% FT for his career at West Virginia.
  44. Steve Novak Marquette. 6’10” 215 SF – Senior. …One of the premier shooters in college hoops. A career 93% free throw shooter! He uses the ball fake well. …He doesn't need much space to get his shot off. 46% FG shooter for his career at Marquette. ...ABCD Camp Senior All-Star Team member in the summer of 2001.
  45. Aaron Gray Pittsburgh – 7’0” 270 C – Junior. …Space eater that can really rebound. Not a big jumper or great runner. Does set a good screen. …Misses easy shots around the basket. First team All Big East 2005-06. …54 % FG shooter in his three years at Pitt. …Struggles at the line - shooting 63% FT in three seasons.
  46. Josh Boone Connecticut – 6’10” 237 C/PF – Junior …Shot blocker struggles at the free throw line (56% career). …58% FG shooter in three years at U-Conn. He can run all day. He finishes. ...Boone averaged 9.5 blocked shots per game as a high school senior.
  47. J.P. Batista – Gonzaga – 6’9” 265 PF – Senior. …He received very little credit for his work at Gonzaga. ...Batista gets his points from using his body to gain deep post position. He shoots a high field goal percentage because he rarely takes a bad shot. Brazilian big man doesn't jump well. Right handed. He will run. ...59% FG shooting for his two years at Gonzaga. 82% FT shooter (actually a higher percentage than his teammate Adam Morrison.) ...Named a second team NJCAA All-American as a sophomore at Barton Community College.
  48. Curtis Stinson Iowa State. 6’2” 205. PG – Junior. …Stinson is a gifted guard that hit a game winner at Kansas (February 19, 2005). …He goes to the hole hard and finishes with left hand. 2004 Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
  49. Craig Smith Boston College. 6’7” 250. PF – Senior. …Smith is the heart of Boston College. He is a power player that jumps quickly. He scores well but is a poor free throw shooter at 64%. Strong, strong body. Right handed. Good passer. Shot 56% FG for his B.C. career. ...As a BC freshman, averaged 19.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Shot 60.8 percent from the field, tops among all Big East players. Earned Big East All-Conference second team honors; also earned BIG EAST All- Rookie first team accolades. Earned All-Tournament honors at the 2003 Big East Championship. Set a BC freshman record for points scored (617). Listed among the top 50 preseason candidates for the 2004 John R. Wooden All-American Team and Player of the Year Award as a junior. Averaged 16.9 points and 8.3 rebounds in 32.9 minutes per outing on the season. Named first-team All-Big East.
  50. Quincy Douby Rutgers. 6’3” 175. SG/PG – Senior. …Douby is a jump shooter from Brooklyn, New York. …Shot 42% from beyond the college arc as a freshman. He is smooth, and crafty. Squares up, and follows through nicely on his shot. …Excellent penetrator, and a kid that wants the ball in the clutch. …Right handed. …Douby has a slight build. He has mastered the floater.
  51. Dee Brown Illinois. 6’0” 175. PG – Senior. …Quick point guard. Brown was named BIG TEN Player of the Year by both the media and coaches (2004-05). He also earned Defensive Player of the Year honors from the coaches. ...Brown has GREAT quickness. Special quickness. His 2.43-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for his career is impressive. ...Uses his left hand well. He upped his three-point shooting percentage to 43% as a junior. ...Takes care of the ball but will jack up some quick shots. As such - his points per shot as Senior was a woeful 1.08.  ...He has ability to make special plays that others cannot. ...He scored 23 points in a half vs. Michigan State. …McDonald's All-America. ...Has leadership skills. Dubbed the "One Man Fast Break".  Brown led the USA Basketball Men's National Junior Team in scoring with a 17.3 average at the Junior World Championships during the summer of 2003. He was a high school football quarterback.
  52. Ryan Hollins – UCLA – 7’0” 230. C. – Senior. …A track athlete with a huge upside. He can really send it in with powerful athletic dunks. He has major holes in his game. Not a great passer and a poor perimeter shooter. That being said - he can be effective when he plays under control. …Was key in a huge UCLA comeback from 17 down to win over Gonzaga in the 2006 Sweet 16. ...Poor shooter from the line at 58% for his career through January 2006. Member of the 2003 USA Basketball Junior World Team. 
  53. Darius Washington Jr. – Memphis. 6’2” 195. Sophomore. …Washington is a hard worker and high scorer. …More of a scoring guard than a point guard - he has slightly more assists than turnovers. ...Had 22 points and ten assists in a win over Gonzaga on 12/27/05. ...McDonald's All American in 2004. Mr. Basketball for State of Florida. …in two years at Memphis he shot 44%FG, and 75 % FT.
  54. Tiago Splitter. Spain. 6’11” 245. C. Born 1984. … A skilled right hander with size. He can catch and finish. Good athlete but poor free throw shooter. Plays good defense on the ball. Well conditioned. He has excellent timing and will reject his share of shots. Might remind you a bit of Christian Laettner.  ...Won the 2004 Spanish National Cup (King's Cup) with Tau Cerámica Saski Baskonia Vitoria...has been member of the Brazilian Junior National Team...member of the Brazilian National Team...won the gold medal at the 2003 South American Championship...won the gold medal at the 2003 Panamerican Games...played at the 2002 World Championship...named to the 2003 South American Championship 1st Team. ...He told DraftCity.com that he believes he can guard small forwards, power forwards, or centers.
