Babyface – House of Blues. West Hollywood, CA. August 28, 2007.

…It wasn’t at all what I expected. But that is my fault for having expectations. I enjoyed Babyface’s casual and quick show Tuesday night at the House of Blues. Backed by a band of drummer, bassist, guitar, and keys – Babyface played and sang some of his favorite rock-folk songs while mixing in a couple hits. He told stories and seemed very at ease on stage. While I would have liked to have heard some more up-tempo tunes, `Face and crew did move me a few times. The show started at about 8:30 pm and was done well before 10:00 pm. Highlights for me included Whip Appeal – where they skipped a verse or two to get to a rousing finish. The majority of the show recalled the hits of Eric Clapton, James Taylor, and Bob Dylan. …A new song, “Not Going Nowhere” - described by Edmonds as written for his children, who are affected by his recent divorce, moved some in the audience to tears. …I recall the band playing covers of Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” (a song I don’t care for), and “Change the World” (The Unplugged live CD version was better). They also covered Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”, and Taylor’s “Fire and Rain”.
