NBA Draft Scouting 2002
Stanford 7'0" 238 C Jr.
Son of former NFL offensive lineman Jon Borchardt. Curtis Borchardt is a fantastic shot blocker and rebounder. ...Played three seasons at Stanford. He is No. 2 on the Cardinal's career list for blocked shots (146). He averaged 16.9 points and was No. 3 in the nation in rebounds (11.4). ...He is not a great shooter, but he can step out and sink perimeter shots. The seven-footer nailed 11 of 27 college threes. ...Shot 57% FG, 41% 3 pt., and 67% FT. ...He is efficient, and smart. ...Good hands, ...can catch and dunk in one fluid motion. He doesn't handle the ball well, and is realitively slow. Pat Riley says, "Borchardt is very impressive. He reminds me of [Indiana's] Brad Miller. He can shoot from outside. He comes from a great system, which is high on our list. He's ready to play." ...Reality: He has been plagued by foot problems throughout his career. He missed 28 games his freshman and sophomore seasons with a stress fracture in his right foot. He underwent surgery during his sophomore season. Two screws were implanted into the bone to help stabilize the injured area and he was injury-free his junior season. I like him too but I would look at my Pervis Ellison and Zydrunas Ilgauskas rookie cards before I picked Borchardt.
