NBA Draft Scouting 2002

34. Jason Capel

North Carolina 6'8" 237 SF - SR.

Mature, versatile player. Can do a little of everything. He hits the glass, passes well, is unselfish to the extreme of needing to shoot more. He'll dive on the floor for a loose ball. Â…Capel is not spectacular at all. He is the son of a coach, and brother of a coach. ...Just smooth. He played most of his freshman year at North Carolina with a bulging disc in his back. Toughness is not a question. The question is wether you selct a moderate athlete that has already had a back surgery. Yes, The Tar Heels stunk, but it wasn't because of Jeff Capel. He averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. The former McDonald's All-America is sure to play better with more efficent players around him. ... He has range to 20'. His 3 pt. stroke is just okay right now (30% last year). ...I like Jason Capel, and think he's smart enough and good enough to pick picked at some point. He totally understands space and position in all facets. He has added weight and muscle. Pretty slow, but plays aggressive defense.
