NBA Draft Scouting 2002

13. Juan Dixon

Maryland 6'3" 164 PG, SG - SR.

Combine quickness, speed, accurate shooting, desire, and great defensive anticipation, and you have Dixon. Â…Plus he's clutch. He is the all-time leading scorer in Maryland history. He wants the ball for the big shot. ...One of the few really GREAT shooters in the college game, Dixon is a 90% FT shooter. His realease is Dell Curry quick. Dixon is at his best when he is aggressive and looking for penetration. He loves to duck-in with his body to draw trips to the line. He played shooting guard in college but is a good enough passer to play point. He creeps on the baseline and gets himself open using screens well. ...Defensively, he is very good, overcoming his lack of size, with uncanny anticipation. He is a thief! He has never fouled out of a game, yet is the all-time steals leader in Maryland history. He gets most of the steals playing off the ball. He rebounds for a guard. He has GREAT energy, which leads to playmaking. Dixon is a classy guard, with great toughness. I like Juan Dixon. ...Personal: He lost both parents to AIDS.
