NBA Draft Scouting 2002

8. Melvin Ely

Fresno St. 6'10" 240 PF, C SR.

2001-02 WAC Player of the Year. Ely was a Wooden Award finalist. He is a scorer, and shot blocker, a rare package. His post game is really nice. He has LONG arms. His standing reach was measured at Chicago at 9 feet 3 inches. ...He makes plays quicker than others. Blocks shots at a high rate for someone labeled "soft". ...Averaged at least 3 blocks per game in each of his four seasons at Fresno State. He is attracted to the ball. Â…Has a nice touch, knocked down 74% of his free throws, while shooting an excellent, 56% from the field. ...He moves his feet well, and shows a nasty fall away jumper. ...Quick. Gets to the goal before you know it. He is 24 years old.

Looking Back to 1999
