| Gilstrap, Marquis | Iowa State | 6'6" | 207 | SG | SR. | Gilstrap is a powerful right handed wing player that rebounds extremely well for his size. ...He has a decent handle that helps set up his jumper. He is a good athlete that played two years of Junior College hoop before coming to Iowa State. ...His shot selection is suspect at best. He will jack a quick one - and as such - he only shot 44% FG in 2009-10. He does get to the free throw line at a high rate (67% free throw shooter). …More turnovers than assists. ...He did show a knack for hitting clutch shots. ...He likes to dunk and seems to get an easy hoop or two each game. ...Gilstrap suffered a broken left leg in 2006 while playing for Gulf Coast Community College. His injury caused him to miss the second half of the 2005-06 season - plus the following TWO seasons. The next time he played organized basketball was at Gulf Coast in 2008-09. ...Gilstrap will be 23 years old when the NBA season starts. ...The fact that he and Craig Brackins could not do better than 15 wins in 32 games makes one pause. ...I think Gilstrap has NBA talent - however - I see him just outside of the cutoff for being drafted. There are too many other players I like better. |
Where do I expect Gilstrap to be taken? He most likely will not be drafted.
Our best advice: In 2005 - Mike Harris (Rice) went undrafted - he has now dominated in China, and the D-League. He is now on the Houston Rockets roster. ...We had him as the 43rd pick in `05.
Our worst advice: In 2003 - We had Chris Massie listed 52nd. He was not drafted. Massie now plays in Greece for Olympia Larisa - where this season, he averages 14 points and eleven boards per game.
