NBA Draft Scouting 2002

2. Drew Gooden

Kansas 6'10" 230 SF, PF - Jr.

...Fantastic offensive player. Gooden can score with relative ease and efficiency. His mistakes are few, and usually come from trying to add something new to his game. He posts up very well. He is strong and wide on the block. His right-handed jump hook is beautiful, yet at the same time - Gooden is capable of leading a fast break. In 2001-02, he was the most efficient player in the NCAA, according to our own stat audit. He rebounds, passes, and blocks shots. His playmaking abilities were really just starting to be explored at Kansas. ...Gooden is a much better athlete than given credit for. He is quick, and jumps reasonably well. He could be a better passer, but as the son of a coach, Gooden is the most complete player in our opinion. I think he should be the first pick not named Yao.
