NBA Draft Scouting 2002

55. John Linehan

Providence 5'9" 165 PG - SR.

Forget that Linehan is 5'9". This guy is TOUGH! A hard-nosed PG, with unshakable confidence that is an absolute pest defensively. The Big East all-time steals leader. Supplies more ball pressure than any PG we saw this season. Has great handles, and stamina. His energy seems endless. Sees the floor well. Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, NABC Defensive Player of the Year, BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, ESPN.com Defensive Player of the Year. All-BIG EAST Second Team. Linehan led his team to a championship at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. He also won the H. Thomas Fennell Sportsmanship Award at the PIT. ...Was second in the nation in steals per game @ 4.5. He had 139 steals in 31 contests this season. He established a NCAA career steals record with 385 steals. In addition he also owns the BIG EAST single-season steals record @ 77 and the BIG EAST single-game steals record 11 . This season, he averaged 12.5 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
