NBA Draft Scouting 2002

11. Qyntel Woods

N.E. Miss. JC 6'9" 213 SF, SG - Soph.

Woods, is a good shooter, and can handle, with 6'9" size. 78% FT, and 54% FG. ... From Memphis. He led Carver High to the state basketball title. Averaged 32.9 ppg, and 9 rebounds per game this season in juco ball. Woods said after Boston drafted JC baller, Kedrick Brown, in the 2001 draft, "That really did make me think I could do this. When I saw (Brown) go 11th, I knew I could go higher because I knew I was better than him." ...He gets to the free throw line, with agressive play. He hit 18 of 21 charity tosses vs. NW Miss. ...Woods has the same verticle leaping ability as Chris Wilcox, which is 34.5". He is strong and agile. He signed a letter-of-intent to play for John Calipari's Memphis University franchise, but decided to go NBA. ...He has serious ball handling skill. ...He was a high-school quarterback, and suffered a torn ACL. That's when he took up hoops. ...He's been working with Adrian Dantly in DC, who is pushing him. By most accounts, a good guy, that needs some direction. ...We remind that Tracy McGrady didn't work too hard at first either. ...He needs to get stronger, and he plays no defense at this point.
