BasslineSpin.com September 26, 2007 ...Two
guys that make me laugh are
Hannibal
Burress and
Bobby
Miyamoto. …Corliss Williamson is
leaving the NBA to be an assistant coach at Arkansas Baptist College. September 23, 2007 ...The
Warriors let Sarunas Jasikevicius go—making
him a free agent. In return they will sign Troy Hudson—according to reports. Hudson, Monta Ellis and Marco Belinelli are a trio of guys that won’t be shy
about hoisting shots. ...The Salt Lake Tribune says Dee Brown will play ball in Turkey in 2007-08.
...I am no fan of Sunday’s late night TV choices. Episodes of Fresh Prince
get the nod on Nickelodeon. ...So Sasha Pavlovic wants
to be paid well by Cleveland. Sorry Sasha - you rated as the 62nd most
efficient guy at your position last season. You are young—and I see the
promise of your game—but you haven’t proven yet that you deserve long term
big money. I would be looking at Mickael Pietrus, Devin Brown and Hassan Adams before Pavlovic. ...Yaroslav Korolev: I thought Korolev played well when
given a chance in pre-season games. He only played 42 minutes all of last
season. September 18, 2007 ...I’m
watching jeopardy and they just had an NBA nicknames category. The answers:
Pistol Pete, Melo, MJ, Larry Legend, and Sir Charles. How easy was that? It
was kind of funny that the one guy on there buzzed in on the Melo answer and
said, “Who is Karl Malone?”
Then a girl to his right took a shot and scored with “Who is Carmelo Anthony?” ...I still have a hard time
believing Hassan Adams is
still a free agent. I’m not his agent—nor do I even know Hassan Adams.
Denver—you could use Adams. I think Cleveland, Orlando, the Kings, Minnesota,
San Antonio and New York would all be better teams with Adams presence in the
backcourt. He finishes, he defends, he even rebounds as a guard. The apparent
downside is that his shot is a work in progress and he has a reputation for
partying. He has a past DUI arrest and another one for disorderly conduct.
Those both happened in college. ...I believe he is worth the risk. Adams
played in New Jersey behind Vince Carter and Jason Kidd. It’s probably not hard to struggle
to believe in yourself when you are sitting on the bench and getting schooled
by future Hall of Fame ballers every day. Adams has been a high profile
baller his entire life. He slipped to the late second round (54th overall) in
the 2006 NBA Draft. That doesn't do wonders for your confidence either. The
deal is this; I’ve seen Adams ball at way too high a level to think he is
somehow washed up after being waived by New Jersey following his rookie year.
This kid was a McDonald’s All-American—the first guard to be California’s
High School Player of the Year since Baron Davis. I
say—give this kid some love and tell him you believe in him and then let him
play. Provide a mentor - if that’s what he needs to slow down his club life -
and reap the benefits of a young athletic guard that has proven he can score,
rebound, disrupt passing lanes, and finish among the best in the NBA. September 16, 2007 ...My
annual natural break from hoop occurs at this time due to obligations to my
racing jobs. I pay attention and still read everything—I just don’t blog much
during this period. But I am back this am—it’s 1:17 am. I saw Super Bad
tonight. Laugh out loud funny - it is easily the best comedy I’ve seen in a
long time. ...Okay - so Greg Oden is out
for the year and that obviously sucks for him, Portland, and the entire
league. I thought the Blazers would maybe contend for one of the last playoff
spots in the West with G.O.—but without him—I have them dead last. I like Brandon Roye, LeMarcus Aldridge, and
Spanish Chocolate (Sergio Rodriguez) but
the Blazers lack depth and none of those dudes is good enough YET to carry an
NBA team. ...Philly may have been reading ‘the Spin’ — since we wondered here
who their starting Power Forward was going to be. They traded for Reggie Evans - and I think he will get the most
minutes ahead of Herbert Hill, and Louis Amundsun. Denver in return received two
defensive players in Steven Hunter, and Bobby Jones. I like this trade lots for the
Nuggs who will not be vulnerable when Marcus Camby has to
sit down. Hunter is a legit defensive stopper and his overall game has
matured beyond when he left DePaul and I thought he shouldn’t have even been
drafted. Evans plays hard and Philly fans will appreciate that - but with Nene, Eduardo Najera, and
to some extent Linas Kleiza all
logging minutes at the FOUR spot - Denver will hardly miss Evans. |
