BasslineSpin.com May 1, 2008 ...People
people people. They fired Avery Johnson in
Dallas. And it wasn’t mainly because Jason Kidd couldn’t
stop Chris Paul. This
goes deeper. Back to last season’s first round exit at the hands of Baron Davis and the Warriors - where AJ sat Erick Dampier in an effort to try to ‘match-up’
with Don Nelson’s small
ball team. Nevermind that you had the best regular season record with `Damp
in the middle. ...The Mavs never should have done the Kidd deal (Yes, I said
that at the time of the trade as well). And it wasn’t just Chris Paul being
better than Kidd. It was almost every individual New Orleans player being
better than their Dallas counterpart. ...Then you have the ‘how much could
you possibly listen to Avery Johnson and not get sick of him?’ factor. He is
way too dramatic, and condescending for my taste. You also have the Eddie Jones is no longer efficient factor. April 30 2008 ...Random
thoughts… Please, Mr. TNT Director or
Producer, stop showing left-third screen graphics during
live ball play on NBA Playoff games. I am watching the game play. Save that
graphic for a dead ball. ...This weekend during ABC’s halftime show Wifey said, “This is so much better than ESPN’s show with
Stephen A. (Smith)
and Jalen
(Rose) arguing. I actually feel like I am hearing an intellectual
conversation and I’m learning something from Michael Wilbon.” …Dallas, Phoenix, and Denver are
done. The West is brutal. George Karl said
he thinks he has one of the ten best teams in the NBA in Denver. But he might
be eighth best in the WEST. ...Za Za Pachulia getting
in Kevin Garnett’s face
made me smile for some reason. Maybe because KG wolf’s so much. ...Brandon Bass is going to get paid. ...Entourage is
filming in Hawaii. ...How about that Chicago Bulls trade of Tyson Chandler for P.J. Brown and J.R. Smith in 2006? How’s that working out?
...The Raptors are done but I thought Carlos Delfino played
well. ...The biggest disagreement’s between my NBA Draft list and the Mock on
Draft Express are… Reggie Williams (not
listed on DE, 16th on my list), Anthony Randolph (9th
on DE, 40th on my list), Courtney Lee (28th
on DE, 57th on my list), Kyle Hines (not
listed on DE, 32nd on my list), Javale McGee (15th
on DE, 42nd on my list), Danilo Gallinari (6th
on DE, 30th on my list), Wayne Ellington (40th
on DE, 19th on my list), D.J. White (39th
on DE, 18th on my list), Mario Chalmers (34th
on DE, 15th on my list), Jason Thompson (29th
on DE, 8th on my list), Richard Hendrix (30th
on DE, 12th on my list), Ty Lawson (29th
on DE, 11th on my list), DeAndre Jordan (10th
on DE, 28th on my list.) April 26, 2008 ...I updated the 2008 NBA Draft
rankings. ...Here is a fun thing (for me). NBA team needs. What position is
the weakest by efficiency on each team? Miami - Udonis Haslem 49th at PF or Mark Blount 49th at C. Michael Beasley will look good in Miami. ...Seattle -
Damien Wilkins 47th at SG. ...Minnesota. Do they have a Center? I call Al Jefferson a PF. ...Memphis - Juan Carlos Navarro 58th at SG.
...New York - Do the Knicks have a Center? Eddy Curry doesn’t block shots. ...Clippers - Cuttino Mobley 56th at SG.
...Milwaukee: Bobby Simmons 60th at SF. ...Charlotte - Jared Dudley 42nd at SF. ...Chicago - Tyrus Thomas 32nd at PF. ...New Jersey - Stromile Swift 38th at PF.
...Indiana - Because I believe that Mike Dunleavy and Danny Granger are both best suited as Small
Forwards - I think the Pacers are weakest at SG where Kareem Rush is their best guy. Rush ranks 63rd at
SG. ...Sacramento - Shelden Williams 51st at PF. ...Portland - Jarrett Jack 41st at PG. ...Golden State - Brandan Wright 19th at PF.
...Phoenix - Do the Suns have a PF on their roster? ...Philly - Reggie Evans 59th at PF.
...Toronto - Joey Graham 52nd at SF. ...Washington - Antonio Daniels 43rd at PG.
...Cleveland - Devin Brown 45th at SG.
...Denver - Kenyon Martin 34th at PF. ...Orlando - Brian Cook 69th at PF. ...Utah - I guess Mehmet Okur is their Center. They need one that
plays some D. ...Spurs - Brent Barry 32nd at SF.
...Houston - Do they have a SG with size? ...New Orleans - Bonzi Wells 21st at SG.
...Detroit - The Pistons could use a SF to back up Tayshaun Prince. ...Boston - I call Kevin Garnett a PF so the C’s could use a C. April 21, 2008 ...As
I finish up with the
final regular season NBA stat audit - I
always have uncertainty regarding a player’s most likely position. We always
rank the players by efficiency at each position. And there are always
stumpers as to which position the player should be listed at. Such as? Austin Croshere. 6’10” - shoots the three well
enough to be a small forward but in my opinion I’ll call him a FOUR due to
lack of foot speed. ...Matt Barnes: He
can guard SF’s, and he makes plays as a point forward but his deep shooting
slipped to 29% this season. That doesn’t cut it as a SF. So what is he? I
guess mostly a SF that needs to play with dudes that can shoot. ...Bobby Jackson? He
actually posted an assist-to-turnover ratio of better than 2:1 - so we will
call him a PG. ...Joey Graham? 6’7”
but doesn’t really have a perimeter game. He can slash with any SF though.
...Luther Head? PG
or SG? Although he loves to shoot - he has become more of a passer and now
does have a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio. He is a PG. ...Ime Udoka? The Spurs say he is a Forward. At 6’5” - I say he
is a SG. ...Damien Wilkins? 6’6”
but strong enough to be a SF. 32% 3 PT. shooter. I’ll go with SG. ...Keith Bogans - 1 or 2? Both. ...Ryan Bowen? 6’9” and a non shooter but hustles
like a SF. I guess he is a PF. |
